The Tin Tabernacle Kilburn, the sea cadets' home in north London, is a Grade II listed building of special architectural importance which was built in 1863.

It has been the home of the Willesden & St Marylebone Cadet Corps for almost 70 years and since the building is in need of restoration and repair, the sea cadets' managing committee have set up the Conservation & Restoration sub Committee to put together a business plan to acquire funds to put the premises right and run them as a community association and resource for them and the people of Kilburn. More about us.

THE SEA CADETS OBJECT TO BRENT COUNCIL ABOUT THE PRESENT PLANNING APPLICATION BY GENESIS HOUSING ASSOCIATION TO BUILD 3 FLATS RIGHT NEXT TO THE TABERNACLE, SUPPOSEDLY TO PROVIDE FUNDS TO RESTORE THE BUILDING.

1) THERE HAS BEEN NO CONSULTATION WITH THE SEA CADETS (INCUMBENTS OF THE BUILDING) AND THEIR PLAN IS POORLY RESEARCHED, WITH MANY PROBLEMS. (E.G. COULD BE AT THE BACK INTO THE MEWS - NOT EVEN CONSIDERED).

2) THERE'S NO LEGAL COMMITMENT FROM GENESIS TO ACTUALLY DO ANY REPAIRS.

3) UNLESS WE CAN GET A PROPER AGREEMENT WITH GENESIS, WE FEAR THAT THERE WILL BE AN INAPPROPRIATE DEVELOPMENT, AND THE BUILDING MAY BE LOST TO COMMUNITY USE (GENESIS ARE TALKING ABOUT £20,000 A YEAR RENT).

PLEASE HELP US TO OBJECT THE APPLICATION PUT FORWARDS BY GENESIS HOUSE ASSOCIATION TO ERECT A 2 STOREY BUILDING WITH A BASEMENT IN OUR GARDEN. BRENT COUNCIL PLANNING REF NO.. 14/0848 COULD YOU SEND IN YOUR THOUGHTS/OBJECTIONS AND SAY THAT IT SHOULD BE PUT ON HOLD UNTIL WE'VE HAD TIME FOR PROPER CONSULTATION WITH GENESIS.
